Abstract :
It is well known that limited safety distance and excessive intersections are the main reasons of the increasing traffic accidents on arterial roads. Based on the highway functional classification and intersection control types, the intersection spacing mode is divided firstly to make sure the arterial road access spacing and intersection corner clearance as the research object. Then for the concept of ldquosafety first, efficiency secondrdquo, theoretic analysis based on the integrated intersection functional area is given to the necessary least access spacing and intersection corner clearance including sight distance, sign setting, conflict separation and traffic capacity. Finally, the standard of safety spacing of unsignalized intersections on arterial roads is proposed synthetically.
