Abstract
The design of a fully fiber-distributed-data-interface (FDDI)-compliant fiber-optic transceiver is described. It implements the full proposed ANSI FDDI physical-medium-dependent (PMD) function in a very compact, one-piece integrated package. The functionality of the package includes a completely FDDI-compliant duplex optical connector receptacle together with an electronic circuit that converts ECL logic levels to the appropriate optical signals for the transmitter, converts the received optical signal back to ECL logic levels and provides the transmit-disable and signal-detect services required of the PMD function
