Abstract :
It is well known that multi antenna communication schemes improve transmission performance in terms of efficiently exploiting available transmission bandwidth and lowering transmission error probability. But in this paper, it is shown that Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) systems can be used to implement physically secure wireless transmissions. Specifically, it is possible to combine information symbols in a way that only the legitimate user could detect and identify the received information. Since channel state of each user is random and unique, it can be considered as secret information and be utilized for inherently secure transmission. In this paper a beamforming-like scheme is proposed that makes use of the unique characteristics of the legitimate channel to afford physically secure wireless communication.
