Abstract :
In this paper possible solutions for the energy supply of telecommunication systems (both TV broadcasting and Base Radio Stations for mobiles) have been studied, taking into account the consumption profiles of the units and the most suitable solutions to optimise the system from the points of view of environmental impact, cost, reliability and safety. In both case the system comprises a fuel storage unit, a fuel cell system and the traditional transmission station; the choice of a fuel cell to provide the electricity is due to several reasons: its environmental impact is zero, without moving parts its noise levels are already quite low as it is, and it has a higher energy efficiency than other solutions.
