  • Abstract
The technical and operational characteristics of the INTELSAT VII and VIIA satellites are described, and link budget examples with receive and transmit antenna sizes specified for various digital video services are provided. The new INTELSAT VIII and VIIIA satellites are also examined, and the methodology used to design each satellite in this series for a specific geographical location is described. Proposed satellite deployment locations for the new INTELSAT VIII and VIIIA satellites are provided, along with a sample footprint coverage map and a look at new areas covered. Digital video link budget examples and receive antenna sizes are also discussed. Finally, the improvements provided by these new satellites are described, with an overview of their benefits to the broadcaster and video service provider. C-band and Ku-band digital satellite newsgathering uses, as well as direct-to-home and direct-to-cable-headend applications, are examined
