Abstract
The design of a Reed-Solomon (RS) codec to be used in conjunction with convolutional codes used in very small aperture terminal (VSAT) applications is discussed. An estimation of the operating speed of the RS codec is presented, and the implementation of an AT&T WE DSP16A digital signal processor to execute the RS encoder and decoder algorithms is described. Recommendations for further development of the RS codec are also presented
