Abstract
This paper presents the design of an universal intelligent vehicular ad-hoc network (InVANET). The network is widely scalable and interoperable with other networks including cellular networks, public switched telephone networks (PSTN) and Internet. Hence, we denote these newly designed mobile environments as universal mobile ad-hoc system (UMAS). The InVANET backbone is constructed from a hierarchical wireless mesh network. We propose a novel hierarchical addressing method, so that the node´s address indicates its position relative to the leader node. By auto-configuration addressing and constructing a virtual backbone, the route-discovery process is simplified and routing overhead minimized.
