Abstract
A continuum traffic flow model with lane-changing behavior in a work zone is developed in this paper based on Jiang´s continuum model. In this improved model, the equilibrium velocity in adjacent lanes replaces it in itself of the motion equation and the distance from the incident point to the vehicle is also considered in the model. The improved model describes the phenomenon that drivers in perceptive areas prefer to decelerate rather than accelerate because of the pressure to change lane. We designed a simulator to simulate the cars with the above-mentioned behavior on the highway and found out that increasing the length of the perceptive areas moderates the shock caused by incident.
