Abstract
The periodogram (FFT processing) is used for routine analysis of HF radar backscatter from the ocean. The authors consider the application of the modified covariance method. This is a modern spectral method which estimates the coefficients of an autoregressive model. The authors present a comparison of these two techniques, involving the extraction of the wave parameters from the power spectrum. It is based an a Monte Carlo simulation study
