The Need for Technological Innovations for Indigenous Knowledge Transfer in Culturally Inclusive Education

Indigenous knowledge is the basis for many remote, rural, and marginalized communities in society and as such, is an important component in the educational development of members within these communities. Due to many reasons, including colonization and a lack of understanding by hegemonic societies, there is a risk of this knowledge disappearing from many communities. Additionally, many of these communities have different (for example, orally based) knowledge systems that are rapidly disappearing. There is a need for technological innovation to support the preservation and integration of this valuable knowledge into the educational model of these communities. This paper proposes a model for leveraging information and communications technology to assist in the gathering, storage, retrieval and inclusion of indigenous knowledge in culturally inclusive education.
