Abstract :
This paper presents a comparison of an inverter driven induction motor (IM) drive system with a switched reluctance (SR) motor drive system. The motors for the comparison are built in an European 132 frame, allowing side-by-side comparison of the two technologies, focusing on available peak and continuous torque, system efficiency, device size and current ratings, and switching losses. Care was taken to ensure that the comparisons were made fairly and that any advantage gained by one technology over the other is duly noted and explained
