The support of public data services: operations issues of a Nynex SMDS network

The issues resulting from the introduction of a switched broadband service and an operations plan to support the initial phase of service introduction are discussed. A service proposal, the existing operations plan, a data services plan, and reliability/quality issues are outlined. It is concluded that in instances where introduction of a new service is coupled with an expected limited early market size, it is possible to scale the deployment plan correspondingly and accelerate the introduction of the service and that, in the long term, a transition must be planned between the early deployment scenario and a mass market
