Cross-national comparative analysis on the status of strategic emerging industries in global value chain

This paper first analyzes the trade profile of Strategic Emerging Industries from the perspective of volume, trade forms and ownership. Processing trade form and foreign owned companies play important role behind the phenomenon of explosive growth for export of China´s High-tech products. Based on input-occupancy-output models of the non-competitive type, this paper then further calculate the Strategic Emerging Industries´ status in global value chain in terms of the domestic input structure. By using domestic value added index weighted by modified revealed comparative advantage to measure China´s Strategic Emerging Industries´ status in global value chain, and comparing the index among different countries, this paper unveils the phenomenon that although China is a big country in terms of the volume of trade, it is located in the comparatively lower level of the global value chain, and thus puts forward some policy recommendations accordingly.
