Abstract :
It is important for more effective traffic management and control to study on identification of chaos in traffic flow. For requirements of real-time traffic control, the number of samples for time series of traffic flows and the speed of identification are restricted so that the traditional methods can not be applied. The improved small-data method is combined with the improved surrogate-data technique to identify chaos in traffic flow. This approach not only has each advantage, but also avoids some disadvantage. With traffic flow simulation software, some problems can be researched easily and systematically. Thus, the time series of microcosmic simulation traffic flow are used to analyze and validate this approach to identify chaos in traffic flow. Its results are compared with those of the power spectrum method. The results indicate that this method can identify chaos in traffic flow exactly and can be used in real-time.
