Abstract :
We develop an OFDM receiver for digital terrestrial television broadcasting. The key issues of the OFDM receiver are frequency synchronization and equalization of channel characteristics including tuner phase noise. A new scheme for frequency synchronization is discussed. The synchronization scheme allows simultaneous frequency error estimation of the carrier frequency and the sampling frequency error with a single estimator. The frequency error estimation is based on correlation vectors of OFDM signals and the portion of its replica placed in a guard interval. A two dimensional interpolation filter is employed to equalize the channel characteristics with minimum noise bandwidth. We show the bit error rate performance of the OFDM receiver with the developed schemes in AWGN, statistic multipath, Rayleigh fading channels, and in the presence of tuner phase noise
