Abstract
The D-ONE modulator is a DVB-T modulator “case study” that represents second generation equipment with the main purpose of offering several improvements compared to previous generation equipment. First generation equipment was aimed at experimental work and did not require any particular performance in terms of cost, ruggedness and size. The D-ONE is the first DVB-T modulator designed and built for daily operation. The D-ONE compares several design architectures towards the proposed European network architectures and toward low cost market targets, which is the key to widespread installation of DVB transmitters. Special attention is paid to reliability by evaluating the use of the same key components used in other wide spread technologies, where possible. This paper describes the technological solutions foreseen in the D-ONE modulator and the advantages in term of implementation allowed by these technologies
