Abstract
This paper describes how the post-production industry may use remote control in a time- and cost-saving way for remote editing of video and film material. Remote editing has previously been restricted to a small geographical area due to the delay introduced by the transmission of control commands between two distant studios. In particular, studio equipment, such as control panels, has very strict requirements for how long a time it will wait for a reply from other equipment, such as video tape recorders. These timing requirements result in time-outs on the control panel and therefore make remote editing impossible. This paper presents a unique way of overcoming these timing problems, hence allowing the post-production industry to finally exploit remote editing to its fullest potential
