Abstract :
Taiwan is located in the subtropical zone where temperature is very high, especially in summer. Therefore, to find a proper heat insulation material as construction material is a very important agenda in Taiwan. Phenolic resin foam material as construction material is characterized by many advantages, e.g. heat insulation, delaying burning rate, low levels of smoke formation and poisonous fumes during the burning process, very much environmental friendliness, etc. In order to make sure the practicability of phenolic resin foam material as a satisfactory construction material available here in Taiwan, an experiment was conducted in this study. A new model of phenolic resin foam material was applied to two experimental buildings, both of which were constructed to examine heat insulation performances of this material. The findings of the experiment have proven that the phenolic resin foam material features heat insulation for up to 5-10°C and heat preservation for 2-3°C.
