Abstract
This paper proposes and outlines a systematic procedure based on intelligent control methods for the purpose of enhancing the design and associated performance of a medium-scale WECS with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) connected to a medium voltage (MV) distribution grid. More specifically are achieved rapid, accurate, stable and simultaneous: MPP tracking of the WT with PMSG, dc voltage regulation/stabilization at the input of the inverter, load power factor correction, and high power quality being injected to the grid in accordance with relevant interconnection requirements. The above features are amply demonstrated through modeling and simulation of a representative system of this type using Simulink/MATLAB environment.
