Abstract :
We present a theoretical and experimental study of circumferential acoustic modes in thin walled tubes. The results are similar to those for thin plates in the limit of thin walled tubes with large radius of curvature. A large (21%) decrease in group velocity of the lowest Lamb-type flexural mode was observed for water loading inside the tube. The results indicate that this system is a promising sensor candidate, especially for liquids
