Abstract
A systematic derivation of the coupled amplitude equation governing the propagation of acoustic wave in a general anisotropic solid is presented, using the method of multiple scales. The equation is uniformly valid prior to discontinuity and reveals the evolution of each order of harmonic accurately. The higher order harmonic generation in some SAN-materials is also investigated and the results are compared with those given by successive approximation method
