Abstract
In this paper a high-power-factor electronic ballast for compact fluorescent lamps based on the class E amplifier and featuring low voltage stress across the switch is presented. The proposed ballast is obtained by integrating a buck-boost converter, used as power factor correction stage, and a class E amplifier with a parallel resonant tank, used as a resonant inverter. The buck-boost converter is operated at constant frequency and constant duty cycle in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) to obtain a high input power factor
