Abstract
The article is a study of current progress in peer-to-peer multicast streaming. The idea of peer-to-peer networks is now about seven years old. Its use for multicast streaming is even younger. Many software packages have been written and deployed. The most astonishing fact about the subject however, is the lack of theoretical background knowledge. The article reviews this knowledge and as its contribution tries to develop this knowledge. As a result the definition of parameters that a model for such a network should have follows. After that, the design of a simulation environment for checking model applicability is introduced
