Abstract
This paper introduces the principles behind digital video broadcasting (DVB) cable receiver characterisation. It describes why the receiver performance and quality is important and suggests techniques for testing set top boxes thoroughly in R&D and quickly and economically in manufacturing. It gives an overview of the basic architecture of a DVB receiver, defines the fundamental measurements associated with DVB, outlines methods for characterising a DVB receiver and measuring the implementation loss, and provides a practical method for high volume manufacturing
