Abstract :
This paper proposes a system composed of a wind turbine generator system and superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) unit, in which SMES is controlled for smoothing the wind generator output power. A determination of power rating and storage energy capacity of SMES unit which are sufficient for the smoothing control but as small as possible is very important problem. In this paper, an evaluation method for the determination of the power rating and the storage energy capacity of SMES is presented based on simulation analyses performed by PSCAD/EMTDC.
