Abstract
The paper demonstrates the results of experimental study of AMF CuCr electrodes interrupting capability in the presence and absence of an external transverse magnetic field. It is shown that the transverse magnetic field can significantly decrease the interrupting capability in case the long (7-9ms) arcs: under the experimental conditions the reduction of about 20% was observed. The decrease of interrupting capability is explained by the higher energy impact into the electrodes due to the rise of the arc voltage under TMF. Successfully interrupted energy density does not depend on the transverse magnetic field level. In the case of short (2.5-3.5ms) arcs the influence of transverse field on the interrupting capability is not revealed.
