Abstract :
Core loss and excess rotor copper loss due to flux pulsations in the air gap are difficult to measure, and are present in every squirrel cage induction motor. These losses depend mainly on the geometric topology. This paper will explain the techniques used to measure the total no load loss and how this can be separated into individual components. Special attention is given to the calculated and measured iron loss components and how the difference could be accounted for in the design phase.
