Abstract
It is evident that winding inductance is a key design parameter, hence understanding how it varies with different winding types is essential. This paper presents a proposed finite element (FE) method in which the d- and q- axis inductances of the IPM machine with fractional-slot concentrated windings can be accurately determined. The effects that fractional-slot concentrated windings has on the d- and q- axis inductances of the IPM machine in comparison with an integral-slot distributed winding is also studied.
