Abstract
The analysis and evaluation of urban passenger traffic structure (UPTS) is necessary for achieving urban traffic development decision scientifically and improving urban traffic system efficiency. After analyzing the characteristics of various traffic modes, a general ecological adaptability evaluation (EAE) model for UPTS was proposed. This model mainly referred to three aspects, for instance, vehicle trip volume, energy consumption, and environment. Specifically, ecological index (EI) was calculated by traffic structure index and ecological cost index. Moreover, a criterion of EI was given according to the national "11th five-year" plan of economy and social development. Finally, the EI value of Harbin\´s UPTS was calculated according to the collected data between 2000 and 2009. It showed that most UPTS of big cites in China were in the non-ecological development state in past.
