Abstract
In this paper, we present a system for reading printed documents, which can be used by the visually disabled. Our system uses speech to transmit printed information to users. To cope with the slowness of the information transmission speed caused by the one-dimensionality of speech, the logical structure of the scanned documents is extracted and used to accelerate the access to the information. A tree-traversing command is provided for navigating through the logical tree generated by the system
