Abstract :
Due to severe mode competition from gyrotron modes it is not possible to excite gyro-peniotron modes using conventional methods. A gyro-peniotron mode may be excited using a large amplitude external signal to provide an initial condition that suppresses competing gyrotron modes. The capabilities of this method of selection are studied for a gyro-peniotron operating at the TE0.2-mode.
