  • Abstract
Due to the promotion of VLSI and switch technologies, many new elements can be added into the buffer insertion ring LAN in order to provide multimedia services with various priority. On the other hand, many advantages of fiber-optic technology can be utilized in LANs. These advantages include high data capacity and ability to transmit multiple channels using high-speed multiplexing mechanism. In this paper, the multiplexing capability and multiple dimensional buffering techniques drive the present analysis of buffer insertion ring LAN. It extends the work mentioned above by describing system architecture, operation, and performance characteristics of four kinds of buffer insertion ring adapters
