Abstract :
The performances of a simple implicit token protocol and attempt-and-defer protocol on multichannel optical fiber have been evaluated. It has been shown that protocol parameters can be chosen to achieve fairness in the entire range of loading. The delay and throughput of the protocols have been evaluated by simulation and their 90% confidence intervals have been obtained. The results show that almost unity utilization can be achieved by transmitting multiple packets. The effects of nonuniform traffic generation by the nodes and asymmetric channel capacities on the performance of the protocol have been obtained. The protocol allows use of both fixed size and variable size packets. The multiple packet transmission by the nodes controlled by threshold counter offers the best delay-throughput performance
