Abstract
This paper presents an investigation of the throughput and delay performance of the modified p-persistent CSMA/CD local area network proposed by the first author (1990). The basic idea of the adaptive algorithm is to maximize the throughput of the network by varying the dynamic probability of transmission of every station. The principle of operation of the algorithm is described. A method for choosing the step size is proposed. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the approach
