Abstract :
We present an international research program for the development and application of multimedia tools to the investigation of cultural heritage. A networking prototype computing system will be produced for the efficient storage and processing of multimedia data referring to works of art and historical documents, including results of chemical and physical analyses and reports about interventions of restoration. Main applications will be concerned with Italian paintings and frescoes from the XVth to XVIIIth century and archives on the Byzantine sea trade in the Mediterranean area
