  • Abstract
The main idea in SPEAR is to have a number of European experts work together on designing the new standard for coding and compression of still pictures, JPEG 2000. JPEG stands for Joined Photographic Experts Group, the ISO working group referenced as ISO/IEC JTCI SC29 WGI. JPEG 2000 is referenced as ISO 15444. It is due to become a standard by, the end of the year 2000, with implementations in a large, lumber of domains, thanks to its concept of “Open Standard” which gives a new dimension in terms of flexibility and functionality
