  • Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. Telecommunications switching is changing its shape. The presentation discusses the reasons for these changes that are reflecting major changes in telecommunications networks and services. New competitive environments are influencing technical approaches towards networking and switching. A variety of available technologies make the image even more blurred. These existing and future technologies are discussed and compared. Some open problems related both to switch architecture and switch management are presented. The talk concludes with some remarks concerning the adaptation of teaching curricula to the ongoing changes in switching technologies
