Abstract
We have successfully developed the world´s first digital optical video disk camera capable of broadcast-quality recording. The camera utilizes a phase-change optical disk with a memory capacity of 4.1 GB per side. The camera also possesses 20-minute recording per side at 25.8 Mbps using the signal format: intraframe fixed length coding. Currently, electronic news gathering (ENG) is done using a VTR, however, recorded information must be transferred to a hard disk drive for quick editing. Therefore, a total news system including the camera will provide a good solution for the complete process, using the same optical medium from the stage ENG, editing, transmission, and archiving in both video versions of 525/59.94 and 625/50
