Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present a frequency-domain beamforming technique for ultrasound medical imaging systems, which is based on the seismic migration algorithm. The proposed procedure is computationally very efficient, and since an entire image can be reconstructed from each insonification, it permits us to dramatically improve the frame-rate achievable. The method allows for the emission of an unfocused wave when using linear or convex transducers, whereas a cylindrical wave illumination is needed with phased arrays, for ensuring a suitable field-of-view. Promising results of the proposed algorithm, applied both on phantom and live tissue data, are presented.
