Abstract
This paper presents a performance comparison between a circuit-based CDMA2000 1x voice system and LTE VoIP system, in terms of capacity, air link latency and link budget. The performance comparison is based on link and network level simulations using a common evaluation methodology. The voice capacity of existing CDMA2000 1x is about 14% better than that of VoIP over LTE (based on 3GPP-Release 8). With CDMA2000 1x-Advanced (CDMA2000 1x-RevisionE and advanced receiver techniques such as interference-cancellation) the CDMA2000 1x voice capacity is about 2.4 times higher than that of LTE VoIP. In addition, CDMA2000 1x provides a 10dB link budget advantage and a substantially lower end-to-end (also referred to as mouth-to-ear) latency.
