Abstract
Video-on-Demand (VoD) services are attractive but also expensive even after the participation of P2P networks. To achieve cost reduction, this paper proposes two mechanisms to enhance the contribution of P2P networks, i.e., storage compression and micropayment. The former greatly magnifies the storage capacity of peer nodes, while the latter establishes an effective user incentive for VoD services. These two mechanisms have been implemented in a large scale P2P based VoD system called Novasky, with extensive trace measurements revealing the promising results of both mechanisms.
