Abstract
The advent of digital broadcasting brings with it many exciting opportunities, not the least of which is the opportunity to provide the consumer with visual images which are of a substantially superior quality to those provided by today´s technology. This paper describes a new technology-digital light processingTM (DLPTM), from Texas Instruments-which could become the dominant TV image technology of the 21st century. At its heart is the digital micromirror deviceTM (DMDTM): the evolution and operation of the DMD is described, and the key benefits of digital light processing are reviewed
