Abstract :
A new technique for the estimation of time delay for ocean depth measurement has been introduced. The technique involves the transmission of a chirp-like signal and the processing of the reflection by an appropriate matched filter. The proposed scheme improves the resolution between the blue-green surface and bottom returns thereby enhancing the accuracy of the time-delay estimation. It is shown here that a chirp-like signal in conjunction with an appropriate matched filter can improve the resolution between the surface and bottom reflection of a bathymetric signal
