  • Abstract
With the advanced development of power grids and giant generators, the short current has grown faster and faster and almost reach the top point of our grids. On the contrary, the development of circuit breakers cannot come up with the development of short current. In order to solve the problems above, a novel type of parallel circuit breakers is introduced in the paper. There are two parts in the device, one coupled reactor and a pair of circuit breakers. It is the coupled reactor that makes the circuit breakers can share and limit the current safely and automatically. Therefore, the paper mainly focuses on the design of the coupled reactor. When everything is ok, the inductance of the coupled reactor is quite small, but as long as the short current appears, the coupled reactor will show a considerable inductance that can limit the current short in an acceptable range. The principle and structure of the novel parallel circuit breakers are both given in the paper, then the simulation and the realization of the whole device are also showed and discussed.
