Abstract
The asymmetric half-bridge converter has been widely discussed because of its soft-switching characteristics. However, when operating within a wide input voltage range, its duty cycle range is correspondingly large, which deteriorates its performance. This paper features a detailed discussion of the relationship between performance and input voltage, and presents a new solution, which uses asymmetric turn-ratios in the integrated magnetic (IM) and can improve the efficiency by 2%. The design guidelines and optimization method are presented. A 1 kW (48 V/20 A) prototype is built and experimental waveforms verify the analysis
