Abstract
A dual-bus local computer network is described. Its performance is evaluated using analytical models. Simulation is used where analysis is mathematically intractable. The study shows the tradeoffs of distributing the communication functions on the outbound network interface unit. The impact of hardware/software failures on the network performance is also studied
