Abstract :
With the advent of integrated services digital network (ISDN) and common channel signaling system 7 (CCS7) protocols, call-related information is now transported in the network. By using this information, the networks have taken on increased intelligence in their methods of routing and offering telecommunication services. The authors discuss how ISDN and CCS7 protocols in call- and non-call-associated modes support the intelligent networking of services. The benefits, i.e., resource savings, of intelligent networking are discussed with specific examples of services such as intelligent networked automatic call distribution
