Abstract :
The adequacy of using average throughput analysis in determining the relative performance of high-speed data bus networks is discussed. Using analytical means, the performance of three different linear bus implementations and the SAE ring bus are examined in terms of low-to-moderate, high, and worst-case throughput delays, and theoretical maximum throughput. It is shown that factors that have a major impact on some of these characteristics do not have a major impact on others
