  • Abstract
    A large negative ion source producing 500 keV, 22 A, 10 s D- ion beams is required for the JT-60U negative ion based neutral beam injector, which is being constructed at JAERI. The ion source consists of a cesium-seeded volume negative ion source and a three-stage electrostatic accelerator. The negative ion generator, the extractor, and the first stage of the accelerator of the ion source have already been fabricated. High voltage holding test of a large insulator and the beam extraction test have just started. Design of the ion source and recent R&D results related on the design are presented
