Abstract
The use of computer-based training (CBT) systems integrated with simulators to turn simulators into total training systems is investigated. The integration of the CBT system with the simulator enhances the instructional value of the simulator and adds computer-based management to the trainer to make it an effective total trainer. The combined simulator and CBT system is a cost-effective solution to the development of a total trainer. Four successful, fielded programs are described. Each uses a powerful CBT system combined with a simulator to provide a distinctive and cost-effective approach to complex training
